Knowledge is Powerful – Know Housing Costs in Every State

Personal Insights

For anyone who has ever looked for a new abode, especially in another state, the cost of purchasing a home can range drastically from neighborhood to neighborhood and from state to state.  The median price of a home for 2018 in the U.S. is $218,000, but depending on the state, this price may go up or down.

In addition to the average home price, the cost per square foot is a perfect way to give home seekers a better idea of how much home they can get for the money.  The lower the cost per square foot, the more home you can get for your money.  For example, if the square price per foot in state A is $150 and in state B is $300, a buyer will pay twice as much for the exact same home in state B versus state A.

Here is a simple list of states with their average home prices (AHP) and cost per square (CPS) foot for each state.  The states are grouped in alphabetical order with the AHP first then the CPS to give buyers an idea of what to expect when looking to move.
