From Intern to Analyst: Building a Career of Growth at Bryn Mawr Trust

Internships are an exciting opportunity to learn more about an industry, role, and company. For Colton Steele, that opportunity led to a full-time job and exciting career prospects. While earning dual degrees in finance and economics from La Salle University, Steele joined Bryn Mawr Trust as a Corporate Trust Intern in 2024, where hands-on learning and close collaboration helped him build the foundation for a promising career in finance. The internship gave Steele first-hand exposure to the culture, which ultimately influenced his decision to join full-time.
“I worked in a team with two other interns, and we spent a lot of time learning about trusts and working with different document types,” said Steele, who now works as a Portfolio Analyst with Bryn Mawr Trust Advisors. “I’ve been able to translate a lot of what I learned that summer to my current role.”
When it came time to choose where to start his career, staying with Bryn Mawr Trust was an easy decision, and it went back to the reason he first joined – the company’s strong community presence and reputation through parent company WSFS. It’s the same bank his family used over the years.
“There’s a sense of belonging I gathered during my internship that made me want to stay,” said Steele. “Everyone on the team was more than willing to take time out of their day to answer any questions I had or show me something they thought would be beneficial. I looked forward to going to work every day because of the people I was around, and I knew that I would be likely to find that in other groups across Bryn Mawr Trust and WSFS Bank as well.”
Getting closer to a full year with Bryn Mawr Trust Advisors, Steele works closely with advisors to best serve the Client. He says each day brings an exciting, new project. The unique dynamic of each Client’s account makes the job both challenging and an opportunity for continued growth. His commitment to learning continues as he works towards becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst.
“Colton’s journey is a great reflection of what we hope every intern experiences at Bryn Mawr Trust — meaningful work, supportive mentors, and a clear path to grow into a fulfilling career,” said Herb Broadwater, Recruiting Program Lead for both Bryn Mawr Trust and WSFS Bank. “We’re proud to see him thriving in his full-time role and continuing to embody the culture of learning and belonging that defines the entire organization.”
For those considering an internship or career at Bryn Mawr Trust, Steele offers simple but powerful advice. “Make the most of the opportunity. Give 110% to everything you do each day, and that will give you the opportunity to do great things. Talk to as many different people and teams as you can until you find a role that fits you. I started in Corporate Trust and transitioned my way to the trade desk, so it is feasible for anyone to get their dream role at this company.”
Steele started as one of BMT’s many summer interns positioned in departments across the company. If you are interested in taking the next step to join BMT as an intern or in a full-time role, you can learn more by going to bmt.com/about-us/careers/.
