Katherine Nguyen Builds Skills and Connections as a Bryn Mawr Trust Intern

For Katherine Nguyen, a rising junior at George Washington University, a summer at Bryn
Mawr Trust (BMT) offered the opportunity to explore a new area of finance while gaining
hands-on experience in a collaborative environment.

This summer, Nguyen is interning with the Retirement Plan team in the Berwyn office, close
to her hometown. Drawn to WSFS for its strong local presence, she was already familiar
with the organization long before she applied.

“I used to drive past the office every day on my way to school,” she said. “It always stood
out to me as a place connected to my community.”

In her role with BMT, Nguyen supports a growing retirement planning team through projects
such as conducting a fee analysis, reviewing financial service providers, and evaluating
how their offerings align with client needs. The work requires both attention to detail and
critical thinking as she helps identify ways to improve transparency and inform clients.

Throughout her internship, Nguyen has seen the value of helping others better plan their
futures. She worked on a project involved partnering with a fellow intern to develop a video
script outlining retirement best practices for nonprofit organizations. She hopes the
resource will continue benefiting clients well beyond the summer.

“I really enjoy the teaching aspect,” she said. “Helping people understand something as
important as retirement planning is incredibly impactful.”

That emphasis on education, mentorship, and service mirrors many of her interests
outside the classroom, as well. As a double major in finance and information systems, she
is involved in Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity focused on mentorship
and service. She also participates in a sustainable consulting organization that supports
nonprofit organizations and serves as a teaching assistant at her university’s investment
institute.

Whether helping students better understand investing in service opportunities, Nguyen has
long been passionate about using financial knowledge to support others. She found those
same values reflected in both the firm’s client-centered approach and its culture of
collaboration this summer.

Nguyen credits much of her positive experience to the people around her. Early in her
internship, she found mentors in Senior Client Services Associate, Tamara Frankel, and
Bryn Mawr Trust Advisors, who helped her feel welcome from day one. Frankel even took
Nguyen out to lunch on her first day, continuing a tradition another colleague had once
extended to her. For Nguyen, the gesture exemplified the culture of support and
connection that defines WSFS and BMT.

“That effort really stood out to me,” she reflected. “It showed how much associates care
about making others feel included.”

As she prepares to begin her junior year, Nguyen said the internship has reinforced her
interests and expanded her understanding of the ways a career in finance can make an
impact.

“I’ve gained so much perspective this summer,” she said. “It’s helped me better
understand where I can make an impact and how I want to grow moving forward.”
